You can always make changes to your home but you can not make changes to its location. Neighborhoods can be different even in the same part of the city. That's why it's important that you become familiar with neighborhoods within your area of interest before searching for your dream home. Ask your real estate agent for a list of neighborhoods in your area of interest. Then take a drive through the different neighborhoods and pay attention to area amenities, how well the yards and common areas are kept, traffic flow and noise level during rush hour, and if you notice a lot of "for lease" signs that could be an indication of a heavy rental area and lacking in "pride of ownership". The more information you can gather the better chance you will have of making sure your home search will be located in a neighborhood you will not regret living in.
